In a surprising move, Apple announced the discontinuation of its buy now, pay later (BNPL) service, Apple Pay Later, just a year after its US launch.

The feature allowed users to split purchases into four interest-free installments over six weeks.

While Apple hasn't disclosed the exact reason behind the axe, industry analysts suggest the company might be aiming for a bigger play.

Apple Pay Later's short-lived existence ended in June 2024. Existing users can breathe a sigh of relief

However, new users won't be able to access the service.

Apple Pay's foray into integrated financing could disrupt the BNPL landscape.
